![]() ![]() The Volunteer Onboarding & Operations Specialist will also manage a comprehensive onboarding process for volunteers, and work with other Volunteer and Programs Team members to ensure that all processes are inclusive of the volunteer and school-related steps necessary for volunteers to work within Los Angeles schools. The Volunteer Onboarding & Operations Specialist will be responsible for updating our volunteer database with volunteer’s status and availability, tracking their training and paperwork and ensuring all volunteers are in compliance. The Temporary Volunteer Onboarding and Operations Specialist will be a member of our Volunteer Team. Young Storytellers programs are designed around Common Core standards, integrate Social and Emotional Learning activities, and include components of Learning for Justice’s Social Justice Standards. Students in each program work with volunteer mentors, and every student gets to see their work performed by professional actors. In elementary school, students write scripts that are completely their own in middle school, students write stories about challenges that they face and in high school, students explore how various communities are portrayed in the media and craft stories that they feel represent their self-identified communities. Young Storytellers works with students in elementary, middle, and high school. Young Storytellers works towards a future where young people experience the impact that their thoughts, feelings, and words can have on the world in which they live. Our programs highlight young people as the center of their own narratives, emphasize that their stories matter, and celebrate their unique voices as the ones telling them. Young Storytellers sparks creative self-discovery through storytelling. Nationally, we are looking to find youth-serving organizations that might be interested in being trained to bring our programs to their communities. Locally, we seek volunteer mentors and actors - especially Gen Z & BIPOC individuals - to continue enriching our programs and providing support for our student writers. This process has also helped us identify what we need as an organization to move forward under the Strategic Plan. In this way, we are able to focus our day-to-day efforts in pursuit of a common goal. While these may seem to be big directions, we have broken them down into smaller action items that team members complete and review quarterly. These efforts will ensure the success of our programs, engage a broader audience, and increase our organizational sustainability. We will create storytelling toolkits and resources to be used by communities nationwide. We will establish a school selection criteria to drive maximum impact in historically marginalized and under-resourced communities. We aim to focus the number of direct service programs we provide each school year to ensure high-quality programming and rebuild a robust volunteer community. As we look to drive the next 25 years of impact, we have identified 3 value-driven strategic directions: The next 3 years of Young Storytellers are all about bolstering and expanding. What began as a series of meetings, activities, and workshops for our staff and board, resulted in a comprehensive living document that has been integrated into all team operations. Our consultants at Freedom Verses helped center the strategic planning in an equitable process that allowed for collaboration and feedback from all corners of the Young Storytellers community. ![]() Throughout 2022, Young Storytellers collaborated with Freedom Verses in the creation of a Strategic Plan for the next three years.
